Cross Stitch Text Pattern Maker

  1. Type your text: names, words, quotes, letters and numbers
  2. Choose from multiple cross stitch fonts including cursive styles
  3. Pick your thread and background colours (or try rainbow mode in the editor)
  4. Download as free printable PDF (with grid) or PNG image

Multi-Line Stacking

Want words on separate lines? Simply press Enter in the text box to create a new line. Each line is automatically centered, perfect for stacked designs like:

  • "Home / Sweet / Home" (each word on its own line)
  • Baby announcements with name, date, and weight stacked
  • Wedding samplers with names above the date

Color Modes

The setup form starts you with a single colour. Once you're in the editor, the colour panel offers three modes:

  • Single: All letters in one color (classic look)
  • Palette: Each letter gets a different color from a chosen palette
  • Gradient: Colors transition smoothly across your text

Cross Stitch Writing Tool: Script, Cursive & Handwriting Styles

Looking for a cross stitch writing generator that produces handwriting-style results? The text generator includes script and cursive fonts - including Great Vibes, Dancing Script, Sacramento, Pacifico, and Lobster - that give that flowing hand-lettered look straight from typed text. As a cross stitch cursive font generator, it handles everything from elegant script monograms to bold connected lettering. Choose a cursive font, set your colour, and your cross stitch writing pattern is ready in seconds without drawing a single stitch manually.

For true freehand handwriting - tracing your own signature or a loved one's handwriting onto the grid - open the cross stitch design tool and use the pressure brush. With an Apple Pencil, Samsung S Pen, or Surface Pen the brush width scales with how hard you press, so you can trace the thick-and-thin variation of real handwriting onto your stitch grid. Upload the handwriting as a reference image overlay, trace over it on the grid, and download the result as a PDF. See our pressure brush guide for a full walkthrough.

Use Your Own Fonts

If you have a favourite font file, you can upload it to My Fonts and reuse it for future text patterns. This is useful for matching a wedding style, a nursery theme, a logo-inspired look, or any personal lettering style you already use elsewhere.

Font conversion is a trace, so some fonts work better than others. Simple, clear fonts usually give the neatest stitch charts. Very thin, decorative, distressed, or tightly spaced fonts can still be useful, but they often look clearer at larger letter heights and may need a little cleanup in the editor.

Please only upload fonts you have permission to use for your own patterns. Xstitchify saves the converted stitch font to your account so you can reuse it, but it does not store the original font file.

Backstitch Lettering for Blackwork Patterns

For blackwork cross stitch patterns, sampler bands and monograms, choose one of the backstitch fonts to create line-based lettering instead of filled text. Backstitch alphabets are useful for dates, initials, border labels and decorative blackwork-style captions. You can browse the full cross stitch fonts collection before generating your chart.
