What is an OXS file?

OXS is an open XML-based cross stitch pattern format used by Pattern Maker, MacStitch, WinStitch, KXStitch and other desktop editors. It stores the palette, full stitches, backstitch, French knots, half stitches and quarter stitches so a pattern can move between applications without losing detail.

What is a Pattern Maker XSD file?

Pattern Maker XSD is the native file format from HobbyWare Pattern Maker for Cross Stitch. Xstitchify can open .xsd files directly and bring across the palette, full stitches, backstitch, French knots, half stitches and quarter stitches.

Which apps can I import from?

You can import .oxs files from Pattern Maker for Cross Stitch, MacStitch, WinStitch and KXStitch, Pattern Maker .xsd files, plus PCStitch 7 and PCStitch 8 .pat files. For PCStitch 9/10/11, export or save as PCStitch 7 first.

What happens to backstitch, knots and partial stitches?

OXS, Pattern Maker XSD and PCStitch 7 imports preserve full stitches, backstitch, French knots, half stitches and quarter stitches. PCStitch 8 imports preserve the DMC palette and full-stitch grid.

Can I export back to OXS after editing?

Yes - once your pattern is open in the editor, choose Export OXS from the Download menu to save a .oxs file you can re-open in Pattern Maker, MacStitch, WinStitch or KXStitch.
