Serif Cross Stitch Font

A heavy capitals-only alphabet, 6 stitches wide and 8 tall, with thick two-stitch strokes that give names and titles real weight.

Serif alphabet chart

Capitals and numbers at the Small size, where each letter is 8 stitches tall. One square is one full cross stitch, with a bold line every 10 stitches. This is exactly what the text generator produces, including the gap between letters.

Small, Medium and Large

The generator has three stitch sizes. Medium and Large are the same letters with every square doubled or tripled, so the shapes stay identical and simply stitch up bigger. The generator starts at Medium.

Where Serif works best

Serif is a titling font. Its strokes are two stitches thick, so a name, a monogram or the heading over a sampler reads clearly from across a room and holds its own next to a bold motif. Wedding initials, a family surname over a front door, or a single word on a cushion all suit it.

It is not the font for long passages: with capitals only, a whole verse becomes hard to read. Pair a Serif heading with the verse itself in Block or Mini.

Stitching Serif

Serif has capitals only. Anything you type in lowercase is stitched as capitals, so you can type normally. Its numbers are just as bold, so a wedding date or a year sits naturally on a line under the initials.

The wide, solid strokes use more thread than Block. At the Medium size each letter is 16 stitches tall, a little over an inch on 14-count, which makes a good size for a monogram.

Stitch your own words in Serif

Type a name, date or a whole verse into the cross stitch font generator, pick a size and thread colour, and it builds the chart for you, ready to print as a PDF or open in Pattern Keeper. Serif is free for everyone.
